A poetic narrative of the sixties. Set in Florida at a time when Bob Dylan was to be heard in Coconut Grove, before the guitar was amplified, this book is an evocation of the voices and music of the time.

Through the simple story of an unexpected pregnancy, which draws in the kindness of strangers, Stephanie encounters her potential for joy; her story is the story of that time, a time of innocence and generosity, and ultimately disappointment. Through a cast of rich characters, all of whom deserved more, the reader re-encounters a part of themselves and might remember what optimism felt like.

This distilled novel fits no category: It is not exactly fiction because the story is true in essence, truer as myth; it is not poetry as such, there are too many insistent voices; it is not history although its place and time are past. It is simply experience singing a song, to the ears and eyes of memory.
